What’s in a reputation? Fairly a bit, if you happen to’re Hyundai.
The corporate’s UK division has put a video on YouTube outlining the right option to say its identify.
Whereas Australians and Brits usually name it ‘ Hee-un-day’ or ‘Hello-un-day’, and our North American pals usually say ‘Hun-day’, it’s truly ‘Hyoon-day’.
“Welcome to the daybreak of a brand new Hyundai,” says the blurb accompanying the video.
“2023 marks the daybreak of a brand new Hyundai within the UK. We’ve taken this chance to interrupt the mould and embrace a brand new chapter for our automobiles and the corporate, together with altering the pronunciation of the model within the UK to deliver it consistent with the worldwide organisation and our Korean heritage.”
UK automotive title Car Magazine requested Hyundai’s administration there in regards to the new model marketing campaign, which kicked off on Boxing Day with the tagline: “‘In case you thought you knew our automobiles and the best way to say our identify, perhaps it’s time to assume once more”.
“Hyundai is a younger, modern and progressive model which has reworked with nice velocity. We’re proudly Korean with actual character and function,” stated managing director Ashley Andrew.
“… With this marketing campaign, we need to inject a bit humour and persona to our model which we hope will encourage extra folks to be taught extra about Hyundai.”
Now, I simply must undo a long time of ordinary mispronunciation…
